Job Summary Roll-Off Truck Driver
The Roll-Off Truck Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of roll-off containers, fabricated materials, scrap metal, construction debris, and equipment between fabrication facilities, customer job sites, recycling centers, and disposal facilities. The driver operates Class A commercial vehicles while maintaining compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), OSHA, and company safety regulations.
This position plays a vital role in maintaining shop productivity by ensuring timely movement of materials and supporting fabrication and construction operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Roll-Off Truck Driver
Transportation & Equipment Operation
- Safely operate Class A CDL roll-off trucks in accordance with DOT regulations.
- Transport roll-off containers to and from fabrication shops, construction sites, customer locations, landfills, and recycling facilities.
- Deliver and retrieve scrap metal containers.
- Transport fabricated steel, materials, equipment, and supplies as assigned.
- Secure all loads in accordance with DOT cargo securement regulations.
- Perform container loading and unloading using roll-off hydraulic systems.
- Ensure proper placement of containers at customer and jobsite locations.
Vehicle Inspections & Maintenance
- Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs).
- Report equipment defects immediately.
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and organization.
- Monitor fluid levels, tires, lights, brakes, and hydraulic systems.
- Coordinate routine maintenance with fleet personnel.
DOT Compliance
- Maintain current Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
- Maintain valid DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Comply with Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Complete electronic or paper driver logs accurately.
- Maintain required shipping and transportation documentation.
- Comply with company Drug & Alcohol Program requirements.
Customer Service
- Represent the company professionally at customer locations.
- Communicate delivery status and scheduling updates.
- Maintain positive customer relationships.
- Address customer concerns professionally.
Safety Responsibilities
- Follow all OSHA safety requirements.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Conduct safe backing procedures.
- Utilize spotters when required.
- Report accidents, incidents, or near misses immediately.
- Participate in safety meetings and required training.
Team Support
- Assist with loading and unloading materials when needed.
- Support fabrication shop logistics.
- Assist warehouse personnel as workload permits.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications Roll-Off Truck Driver
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) meeting company insurance requirements.
- Ability to pass DOT pre-employment drug screening.
- Ability to pass DOT background requirements as applicable.
